Nea Roda village
The Nea Roda is a coastal village of Halkidiki . It is considered the largest refugee settlement in northern Halkidiki. In 2001, it had 1,148 inhabitants and it is the seat of the municipal district that belongs to the Municipality of Aristotle . In the summer, its population is multiplying.
Where Nea Roda is located
It is located at the narrowest point of the peninsula of Athos and is washed by the sea from two sides. The main occupation of the village inhabitants is agriculture, fishing and tourism. It is 6 kilometers from Ierissos . The main temple is the temple of Theotokos and Ag. Nicholas, in which there is a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, which was transferred from the first inhabitants, refugees from the Alonis Watchtower, the Sea of Marmara. The chapel of Aghioi Theodoroi overlooks the harbor and Saint Modestos in the meadows.
In Nea Roda there is a doctor’s office, pharmacy, kindergarten, elementary school, carpet school and a cultural association with a dance department.
