The Kalampaka is a town of Trikala prefecture and capital of the municipality. It is located in the center of Greece and extends to the northwestern part of the Thessalian plain. It is built next to the rare geological phenomenon of Meteora , while the river Pinios passes by . It was inhabited since ancient times by the name Aeginio. Its permanent population currently stands at 8,330 (Inventory 2011) residents. Every year more than 2,000,000 tourists visit Kalampaka.
