About Leptokaria
Leptokarya is a coastal town in the prefecture of Pieria and is 26 km from Katerini. Its name derives from the hazelnuts that existed in the area and the Greek version of the Turkish word finikioi (fountukohori).
Leptokarya has natural beauties, a great coastline, crystal clear waters and history lost in the depths of the centuries, in ancient Leithra. This ancient city is associated with the Dionysian worship, as it was the area where the first Dionysian Feasts had an operative. Of particular interest are the monuments of Leptokarya, among which are the Byzantine churches, the monastery of Panagia Kanaliotissa, the cave (anthros), which traditionally gave birth to Orpheus, the city of Muses, etc.
There are plenty of hotels (the largest in Pieria), hundreds of rooms to rent, shopping, leisure and entertainment, taverns and cafes on the one hand, Akti, Olympos, ancient finds, cultural events and festivals on the other, combine on holiday the fun with the entertainment, the comfortable stay with the necessary comforts, the land of Misty Orpheus and Pieria of the 21st century.
The area is famous for its intense cultural activity.
One of the most important events and customs in the city is the Cedar Festival, in which the partition of Orpheus from the Maenads, on Sunday of the Carnival, revives.
During the events, wine and fast food (sardine) are offered, accompanied by dances and songs around fire. Impressive and spectacular is the Leptokarya carnival, with the parade of the tanks on the Clean Monday.
Graphic is the old Leptokarya, where on Friday after Easter is a traditional feast. In Palaia Leptokarya there is the temple of Agia Triada and Agia Fotini in the cemeteries.
Leptokarya Beach
The long sandy beach at the foot of Mount Olympus is situated in front of the village of Leptokarya. The crystal clear waters, the very good organization and the good tourist infrastructure in general make Leptokarya Beach ideal for family vacations and for every visitor.
At the nearby dining and entertainment venues you will taste a variety of flavors and have fun while escaping from everyday life.
