The beautiful city of Trikala dominates the center of Greece , in the northwestern part of the Thessaly plain. The city is distinguished for the layout and for the territory level , making it ideal for traveling by bicycle. They crossed the river Litheos , a tributary of the Pinios river . Trikala is a city that combines the natural beauty with the amenities of a modern city , providing a high level of service to residents but also to visitors .
Matsopoulos Mill
One of the most important monuments Industrial Heritage of our country , is located in Trikala. This is the Mill Matsopoulos , with buildings occupying more than 3,500 sq.m. and a total of 90 acres of the surrounding area .
Located on the western edge of the city, within walking distance from the train station, next to Agiamonioti River. Built in 1884 by brothers Agathocles, shortly after the liberation of Thessaly. It was the first mill built in Greece and the largest in the Balkans and beside him was built and the first pasta factory in the country. After 22 years built and the second roller, the surface of 1000 m², which exists until today. In the years that followed changed ownership several times, until he came to John Matsopoulos and after his death, in 1977, the municipality of Trikala, who in the European Union co renovated it.
The operation of the mill was stopped in 1984 , and in recent years worked with electricity and water and the production reached 1700 kg per day . Nowadays is a dynamic multi-cultural center , with many cultural activities take place here , the most important of the Comedy Festival, a unique festival for the Greek data , held here since 2004. In the main building mainly hosted art exhibitions and other areas including the municipal theater , outdoor cinema , conference room and the art workshop of the cultural body of the municipality . Finally , the site operates elementary cafeteria where you can relax in a green environment .
Fortress of Trikala
On the northeast edge of the city, stands the fortress , with the characteristic clock . It was built by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century on the ruins of the citadel of the ancient town of Trikke . Many parts of the castle were destroyed during the conquest of the city by the Ottomans rebuilt by themselves however soon because of the strategic point of the city .
After the revolutions of 1854 and 1878 the fort was repaired again and was an important development and security pillar for the city. In the mid-17th century castle was erected within a large clock, and with the corresponding tower in Larissa, is one of the oldest known in the Turkish-occupied Greece. The clock that stands today is what has replaced the older, which was destroyed by the Nazi bombings. Today the fortress is open with views across the city and home to the municipal outdoor theater.
Varousi & Manavika
The Varousi and Manvika neighborhoods are the two districts that make up the old town of Trikala . Varoussi under Turkish rule until 1930 was the aristocratic district of the city and includes today a large number of listed old buildings and mansions of the time .

Exemptions include people who have medical issues (trouble breathing, unability to wear a mask properly etc), children under the age of three (3) or you have any other legitamate reason not to – however please note that proof maybe requested by local authorities. Our drivers treat everyone with respect and compassion and understand if it is not immediately obvious that some people are not able to wear face covering for medical reasons.

Where do I have to wear mask in Greece?

From Wednesday 1st of June 2022 and after, Greek state decided and it is the law now that:
– Masks are NOT mandatory anymore INDOORS. This means that you DON’T have to wear a facemask anymore, if you want to visit a coffee shop, a restaurant, a beach bar, a shop, hotel or supermarket.
– You MUST wear a mask, if you visit the following places: public hospital, pharmacy, private clinic, doctor’s office, medical centre, retirement and nursing home. You must also wear a mask, when using public transportation (public bus, taxi, chauffeurred-driven vehicles etc)
Here they are located and most of the churches of the city , Byzantine and post-Byzantine , very close to each other. Characteristic is that of St. Stephen dating from 1896 and built on the site of an older , Byzantine church destroyed Agioi Apostoli. Panagia Faneromeni 1853 , Agia Marina 1766 , Hagia Visit of 1543 and Saint Demetrios 1580 are indicative few more of the many churches located at Varousi . It is worth mentioning that the famous song by Vasilis Tsitsani 1939 , with the couplet ” Trikala in two narrow, killed the Sakaflia ” refers to incident that took place in this region.
Following the Varousi district is the Manavika district , with the characteristic traditional architecture . The district formerly housed the city’s prostitution and later the vegetable market , and today houses mainly traditional taverns , restaurants and cafes .
Osman Shah Mosque
The mosque of Osman or Osman Shah Mosque Shah ( leaden mosque ) , is built on the edge of town, in Karditsa road, south of the church St. Constantine and Helen. It is a unique attraction , since it is the only surviving of many that once existed in Trikala and protected by UNESCO as a world heritage monument .
The exact date of construction of the mosque is not known, since there is not a founding inscription , but it is known that the 16th century was built by Osman Shah , who was exiled to the city. Architect is a famous architect of that time , Mimar Sinan . Particular impression created in the visitor the dimensions of the building, with a diameter of 18 meters and a height of 22 meters and is constructed to have perfect acoustics.In the south of the mosque survived the Tourbes ( mausoleum ) Osman Shah , an octagonal building with a dome , in which are kept archaeological finds in the area . The Osman Shah Mosque is open to visitors and often hosts mild events, including art exhibitions and lectures .
