About Eleftheroupoli Kavalas
The Municipality of Eleftheroupoli a seat pangaio and is built on the northern point of the Marmara valley where it meets the plain of Philippi.
The seat of the Municipal Unity is the Municipal Community of Eleftheroupolis, which consists of the settlements:
1. Akrovouni
A relatively new village was relocated to the present location in the early 1950s. Kotsani was called the old village, inhabited until 1922 exclusively by the Turks as many villages in the surrounding area. In 1922, during the Asia Minor catastrophe refugees from Eastern Thrace, namely Demokrania, Pasakioi, Sochi, Pontos and many few Karamanlis settled in Kotsani. It was a place with excellent climatic conditions as well as the richest village in the region.
2. Exohi
It is a small village located just outside Eleftheroupoli. The first inhabitants of the area came from Asia Minor. It was founded around 1880. The population is mainly occupied with agriculture and livestock farming. It consists of 140 inhabitants who cultivate tobacco, corn, wheat, grapes and olives.
3. Hortokopi
For about 30 years, the old Hacketopi, Acrobouni (old village) and Kipia were a community based in Kipia. Most families as their main work had tobacco growing and fewer livestock breeding.

From Wednesday 1st of June 2022 and after, Greek state decided and it is the law now that:
– Masks are NOT mandatory anymore INDOORS. This means that you DON’T have to wear a facemask anymore, if you want to visit a coffee shop, a restaurant, a beach bar, a shop, hotel or supermarket.
– You MUST wear a mask, if you visit the following places: public hospital, pharmacy, private clinic, doctor’s office, medical centre, retirement and nursing home. You must also wear a mask, when using public transportation (public bus, taxi, chauffeurred-driven vehicles etc)
