At the foot of eastern Vermio, in a natural embrace, formed by successive levels that slowly descend to the plain, Naoussa is built, dominating from an average altitude of 330 m from the sea on its entire fertile plain Imathia, which extends to Thessaloniki. Towards the west, the horizon of the city is described by green mountains and hills that create this very welcoming embrace, which has created and developed today’s city. Mount Vermio, which is the natural boundary between the plain of Imathia-Thessaloniki to the east and the highlands of Kozani to the west, leaves little mandatory crossings on which are the most important cities of the region: Veria, the capital of the Prefecture of Imathia , in the south, Naoussa in the center and Edessa, the capital of the Prefecture of Pella to the north. Too many villages dispersed among them ensure a continuity in the human presence. Vermio has its northern and eastern slopes covered by forests with conifers and beeches, while its western slopes are almost bare. Its abundant waters form large and small waterfalls, which have been used and still used as a driving force for the industry since the 19th century. Especially for Naousa, the most important river is Arapitsa, which has its springs in a magnificent beauty area near the town, in Agios Nikolaos grove. Rolling down to the lower levels, it crosses the city, dividing it into two uneven places, while successive waterfalls of lesser or greater height are formed all the way to the plain
