In a magical environment in the northwestern part of the prefecture of Grevena, 42 km from the capital of the prefecture, in the heart of the immortal Pindos, lies the National Ski Center Vasilitsa.
The nature of Pindos remains unchanged over time, the same dark green of the conifers, the same beech-like beech, the same immortal oak, the only difference being that in the early epochs of the year, these beasts marched into beings, , like the mammoth that was revealed in our county.
This greatness of Pindus encouraged a group of romantic people to create the Ski Mountaineering Association in early 1975 to realize a utopia at that time. SKI CENTER IN VASILITSA.
They succeeded in pushing the central power to finance the first sliding lift on the Vasilitsa – Gomaras ladder of 1060 m. At an altitude of 1788 – 2060 m (altitude 272 m).
This lift carries 800 skiers per hour and operates until today. Its installation and construction is an example because the track has received minimal interference and the quantity and quality of the snow is excellent. In the years to come, the idea of tourism development in Grevena with the main pole of Vasilitsa ski resort is getting more and more fanatical fans who talk flatly about the possibilities of using Vasilitsa, defying the inconvenience that they are going to approach (dirt road, Lift with amateur pilgrims, unsurpassed pistes, big snowfall that exceeds 2 meters, minimal building facilities, but Vasilitsa continues to enchant and attract more and more visitors from many parts of Greece let.
In 1991, the Ski Mountaineering Association grants the General Secretariat of Sports the infrastructure it created, namely the sliding lift, the snowblower and the chalet, in order to set up a Legal Body of Public Law, with a seven-member committee with a two-year mandate and named National Ski Center of Vasilitsa.
In 1993, by joining the 1st Common Funding Framework, they were constructed by TEDK. in the Liesporos Galani area two air lifts, a three-seater of 991,40 meters at an altitude of 1642,5-1825,26 (altitude of 182,76 m) with a capacity of 1800 skiers per hour, a two-stroke length of 845,60 m at an altitude of 1797 – 2110 (altitude of 313 m) with a capacity of 1800 skiers per hour, and a beginner slides of 300 m in length.
The efforts of the administration and the Prefecture of Grevena continue and in 1998 the study of the environmental conditions of the Ski Center is approved and 460,238 hectares are granted by the Ministry of Agriculture to GSP Sport, an achievement that solves problems for spatial planning and construction studies necessary infrastructure projects and buildings that have the authority to protect this amazing environment away from arbitrary and uncontrolled structures.
In 2000, the 2nd Prefecture of Grevena constructed two sliding lifts and one for beginners in Baldouma. These lifts are the first with the name of Midanis, 800 meters long, at an altitude of 1810 – 2034 m and the second one named Tymphaia, 980 m long. at an altitude of 1774 – 2040 give new prospects and possibilities to the ski center by increasing its capacity and ranking it in the first in Northern Greece. All lifts serve slopes of various difficulty and slopes of a total length of 22 Km, which have not received any external interventions, have preserved the natural beauty and constitute the great advantage of Vasilitsa.
Two pistes of the center have been characterized by the FIS Olympic specifications, Jupiter Track (at 2-seater) length: 1000 m – 289 m (1814-2103) GS-SL and Tracks: a) 760 m altitude difference 254 m. (1780 – 2034) and b) 950 m in length with an altitude difference of 290 m (1744 – 2034).
HVAC Vasilitsas currently operates with full licensing of electromechanical and building facilities. Event that makes HVAC Vasilitsa the first in Greece with environmental approval and operating license.
A further major problem with its operation is the end of it with the adoption of Law 3057 / 24.9.2002 “amending and completing the Law 2725/99 of the Ministry of Culture and other provisions”, which included the establishment of a Management and Operation Organization Hence, with the organization and administration center of the center, the long-standing problems of the temporary staff who have tirelessly offered their services over the decade will be solved. Furthermore, the inclusion in a program for the financing of the construction of the Ski Chalet and car park at the base of the three-seat chair, totaling € 3,500,000, will increase the quality of service and visitor service.
Vasilitsa is invited to play a pioneering role in winter tourism and more widely throughout the year with a variety of actions and interventions and is ready for this role.
Her designs and visions do not stop. She has the ability and will be able to overcome herself in all the developmental programs because it is the greatest lever of development of N. Grevena and of all North Pindos and this effort was supported and accompanied by the struggles and aspirations of all the Grevenoi, anonymous
